Court Appointed Special Advocates Lead Foster Children to a Brighter Future

Did you know that the average amount of time young people spend in the foster care system in New York State is over 18 months? During these long months, many of those in foster care do not have natural supports systems in place. To fulfill this unmet need, EAC Network’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) act in the best interests of young people in foster care in Nassau and Suffolk counties as they transition into permanent housing.

offender reentry
Guiding Offender Reentry: Our Game Plan to Break the Cycle

Recidivism is a community problem, not just a criminal justice problem. In 2020, 14 percent of those arrested in New York City were later rearrested for committing another crime. This unfortunate cycle jeopardizes the safety and security of the community. To slow (and hopefully stop) the revolving door, EAC Network’s Offender Reentry Program (ORP) provides direct support services that ease an often challenging transition back into the community.

A Suffolk County Youth Mentoring Program Empowers Trauma Survivors

Due to increased gang presence in Suffolk County, the commercial sexual exploitation of children has become a growing epidemic on the East End of Long Island. This social problem has created a pressing need for additional support services for young people who have been impacted by or are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation. Safe Harbour Mentoring, an EAC Network program, works on the frontlines, making a difference in the lives of young people in our communities. Learn more about this solution-based youth mentoring program and find out what you can do to help.

human trafficking prevention month
Why We #WearBlue for National Human Trafficking Prevention Month

National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, observed during January, is dedicated to raising public awareness about human trafficking, which continues to be a major problem in America — even in 2022. In Suffolk County, our Safe Harbour program has been protecting and caring for children who are at-risk or have been sexually exploited since 2014. This month, take a moment to learn about this EAC Network program and how you can help us raise awareness about this important issue.

social support services
Our Social Support Services Alter Outcomes with Coordinated Assistance

For those coping with the immediate consequences of substance abuse, mental illness, or incarceration, the American health care system can be confusing and even intimidating. They face the challenge of managing disjointed services on their own. Without social support services, many individuals bounce around the medical system, resulting in a higher rate of adverse outcomes and increased community health care expenses.

National Impaired Driving Prevention Month
National Impaired Driving Prevention Month: Education Promotes Safety

Did you know that one person dies in a motor vehicle crash that involves an alcohol-impaired driver every 50 minutes? This is a troubling trend that could (and should) be prevented. EAC Network’s Alcohol Education Program (AEP) uses a solution-based strategy to save lives through education. During National Impaired Driving Prevention Month this December, we highlight the positive impact AEP has been making on the lives of at-risk individuals living within our communities.

nutrition education
A Food and Nutrition Education Lifeline to the HIV/AIDS Community

When the pandemic hit New York in March 2020, low-income individuals living with HIV/AIDS became essentially homebound, placing them at higher risk for food insecurity. To fill this service gap, EAC Network’s Nutrition Education & Food Services program pivoted to provide remote services. Participants were then able to receive food vouchers via the mail and participate in nutrition education videoconference sessions, while in-person services were not possible. Through actions like these, we made a true difference in the lives of at-risk Nassau and Suffolk residents at an incredibly challenging time.
