EAC Network continues to reach out to leaders within the diverse communities we proudly serve to better understand their evolving needs. During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we connected with Dr. Sana Malik, PhD., Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University’s School of Social Welfare. Our discussion included social…
Every April, the Child Advocacy Center recognizes National Child Abuse Prevention Month by strengthening connections with the Suffolk County community. Acknowledging the uniqueness of the last year, the CAC sought to create a tangible community-wide project that reflects today’s challenges. This year’s project — a collection of feathers adorned with messages of resilience — empowers youth to persevere in times of crisis.
Over the last year, the COVID-19 pandemic has put many older adults in our community in a serious bind. Suddenly, more Nassau County seniors needed access to nutritious food. EAC Network’s Meals on Wheels program stepped in to provide that desperately needed lifeline, thanks to our network of generous donors and supporters.
In life, conflict is unavoidable. Agreements aren’t always easy to reach when working with others. However, disagreements may escalate to the point where they require outside assistance to resolve. EAC Network’s Long Island Dispute Resolution Centers (LIDRC) — which recently swore in 16 peer mediators from Alverta B. Gray Schultz…

There’s a lot to navigate during the pandemic, and that can be stressful. There are masks to wear, distance to keep, and then there is loss. And loss takes all kinds of forms. There are activities you don’t do now, friends you don’t see, and then, there are friends and family you have lost. There’s simply a lot going on right now, and feeling stressed or anxious is to be expected. According to Project Hope, the key is what you do with the stress and anxiety – how do you handle it so it doesn’t get a hold on you.
The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t been easy for any of us. But for marginalized Nassau County senior citizens, it has been a particularly challenging time. Our local seniors have had to deal with increased isolation and decreased access to food. To confront this pervasive problem, EAC Network’s Meals on Wheels in Nassau County has been on the frontlines making daily deliveries of food and hope to home-bound seniors.
EAC Network’s Chance to Advance mentors — the selfless individuals who build relationships that encourage personal growth — help shape the lives of youth in foster care. The support they provide has been responsible for improving the quality of life of countless young people. This January, in recognition of National Mentoring Month, we salute those mentors of Chance to Advance who give so much to help others.
Human trafficking in Suffolk County is far more prevalent than most realize, and many youths who are at-risk of this often fall under the radar. Approximately 300,000 to 500,000 children are bought for sex in the United States annually. Every January, National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month is recognized to raise awareness that could potentially help raise awareness and prevent more children from becoming victims of human trafficking. Educate yourself about this important cause, which EAC Network’s Safe Harbour program is dedicated to advancing.
