PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT’S CALL TO ACTION ENCOURAGED OUR CLIENT TO SERVE HER COUNTRY
Ruthie, one of our beloved clients at the Port Washington Senior Community Service Center, spoke to us about her service in the U.S. Army during WWII.
“President Roosevelt was saying, ‘We need you.’ I went right down and enlisted,” said Ruthie. She was fresh out of Syracuse University when she heard President Roosevelt calling for people to enlist in the war effort during WWII. She traveled to Texas and New Orleans for training to become a nurse. Ruthie treated young injured soldiers who came into the port for a year. When the war ended, she continued her service by working at the VA.
Ruthie has had quite the life and we’re so happy to have her at our Port Washington Senior Community Service Center! This Presidents week let’s remember the good men and women, like Ruthie, who answered President Roosevelt’s call to protect our country and the rights of all.
Thank you for your service, Ruthie!
