How You Can Help:
The Hempstead Senior Center seeks to relocate to a facility with air conditioning, a commercial-sized kitchen with a serving station and commercial equipment, including a refrigerator and freezer, and a dining and recreational area. An exercise/presentation room and office/supply room would also be beneficial.
The Center also seeks tables, comfortable chairs, office chairs, fans, a Smart Board, smart flat screen TV, file cabinets with locks, wireless speakers, Wii system and games, memory games, board games including, but not limited to checkers, dominoes, and chess, small prizes for BINGO, a newspaper subscription, and supplementary funding for special events and day trips.

The Outcomes of Senior Community Service Centers
Seniors at our centers get daily exercise, receive nutrition information, and regain feelings of confidence and independence through socialization and mentally engaging activities.
They no longer live in isolation and have built strong relationships with other seniors and staff members, resulting in a more fulfilling life.
What People Say About Senior Community Service Centers
I came to this center over two years ago and it’s a God send because I had retired and all I was doing was watching TV. And then I saw my neighbor get picked up every day by the Hempstead Senior Center and she gave me the number. From then, I haven’t stopped coming. I come five days a week, the exercise is excellent and I participate in everything. We have arts and crafts. We go to Lido Beach in the summer and have dance parties. The dance floor is always hot and heavy. This is a wonderful, great program. The coordinator and the staff are very respectful to us. I’m telling you, I cannot stop giving praise to this center. I’ve invited 8 or 9 people to the program and they just love it. I don’t know what I would have done without the center. It put more life into me.
I learned about the program through my insurance. I had never heard of senior centers and I liked it. I come here every day because I like the exercise and to socialize. Some of our members are unable to come anymore because of their health, so we have members that we go visit. I’m a widow and I live alone now. Being in the house all day is not one of my things. We have a good time here.
It’s fabulous. They do a good job. The people are very attentive and happy. I get to eat, eat, eat! And exercise. I like chair yoga and Spanish dancing. They’re very warm and receptive here.
