LIDRC Highlights

Welcome to the LIDRC training corner wrap-up of training and restorative practices events!

The following are a list of the Peer Mediation Trainings that LIDRC’s Peer Mediation Trainer Mr. Gregg Scheiner provided in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. After each Peer Mediation Training there was a swearing in ceremony of the Peer Mediators by an elected official, and usually the parents and invited guests attended the event.

In addition, LIDRC’s own Gregg Scheiner who is a certified Circles Trainer through the International Institute of Restorative Practices provided circles training to The Community Partnership program, which is a Hempstead-based organization and provides services to the local community.

In addition to local schools, Peer Mediation Trainings were provided to two Youth agencies in Nassau County: Concerned Citizens for Roslyn Youth and Espoir Youth in Westbury.

LIDRC provided Basic Mediation Training and Advanced Training – Trauma Informed Practices- also a online training -Mental Illness in Dispute Resolution was offered. Dr. Tricia Jones from Temple University and LIDRC’s own Gregg Scheiner conducted a three-day Conflict Coaching training in Hempstead.

In October 2019, a group of students were trained at ABGS Middle School in Hempstead and sworn in by the Honorable Joy Watson at the conclusion of the training.

Also at Dodd Middle School is an advertisement encouraging the students to use PM as part of their conflict resolution strategy.

In addition, Dodd Middle School has established Peer Mediation Room in the library where the mediators will mediate conflicts with fellow students that have occurred in the school.

LIDRC was selected as a Silver Sponsor for the Nassau LISST Conference where LIDRC showcased services for School personnel including guidance counselors, therapists, and others from Nassau and Suffolk schools.

Also trained were students from Northern Parkway School in the Uniondale District. Legislator Kevan Abrahams from District 1 officiated the swearing in ceremony and was a student at Northern Parkway.

The drawing was in response to a question posed to Babylon High School students, "when you hear the word conflict what comes to mind?" Then the students were then asked to illustrate conflict in small groups.
