EAC Network Intern Obtains Support From Northwell Health and Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation To Furnish Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center
Davaun Monteith, second year MSW student at Fordham University and current intern for EAC Network’s Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center (CAC), wrote a few letters to seek a donation of new furniture for the non-profit’s Central Islip location. Davaun’s letter stated that furniture in the organization’s waiting room, where young children who are victims of child abuse wait with their families to meet with investigative team (medical staff, law enforcement, and CPS) was in extremely poor condition.
Davaun was motivated and successfully reached out to Michael J. Dowling, Northwell Health’s President and CEO. Mr. Dowling quickly responded to Davaun’s letter that described the work and mission of the CAC. Dowling approved a donation from Northwell Health which allowed the CAC to select any furniture they wanted from Northwell’s 8 storage units. Since that time, CAC staff selected a beautiful waiting room set that included a couch, love seat, three matching chairs, a coffee table, and three round end tables. As CAC staff stood there talking amongst themselves trying to figure out how and when they were going to get everything back to the CAC, Northwell Health’s storage manager said, “Oh, Mr. Dowling said that we are delivering to your location free of charge as well.”
“Northwell Health is proud to support EAC Network and their work in creating a better community for all,” said Michael Dowling, President and CEO of Northwell Health. “We were honored to donate furniture for their Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center waiting room where children and parents feel welcomed and supported.”
Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation also generously stepped in to save the day with a $2,000 gift card. This donation will be used to purchase furnishings for the CAC’s waiting room including area rugs, lamps, and wall art, that will further create an inviting and welcome feel. The Charitable Foundation along with Bob’s Outreach provide aid and donations to hundreds of organizations and individuals with over 2.75 million dollars in gift certificates and monetary donations distributed each year to social service agencies, charities, group homes and community fundraisers, children’s charities, schools and community service groups.

Their collective generosity and kindness will help to welcome children and their families who come to EAC Network’s Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center where our professional teams reduce the trauma of child sexual/physical abuse and neglect.
