PARTNER DONATION FROM GEICO HELPS EAC NETWORK’s MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM PROVIDE LIFE SUSTAINING FOOD TO SENIORS
June 2, 2020, Long Island, NY ~ EAC Network, a leading human services organization, has received much needed assistance for its Covid-19 Response Fund from GEICO’s local Woodbury office through a gifted partner donation of $3,000. The donation will support EAC Network’s Meals On Wheels program which is on the frontline in delivering life sustaining food to Nassau County’s seniors who are impacted by COVID-19.
EAC Network’s Meals On Wheels program, whose delivery areas include 45 towns within Nassau County including the entire Town of North Hempstead, Long Beach, and Five Towns communities, is the only Meals On Wheels program that makes deliveries to COVID-19 positive seniors who live in multiple dwellings.
“We are truly grateful to GEICO for its support. Before the pandemic our Meals On Wheels staff and volunteers delivered 13,000 meals to 400 seniors a month. By the end of April, this number grew to 19,500 meals to 1,000 grateful seniors – many of whom were COVID-19 positive or recently discharged from hospitals post COVID-19 treatment,” said Carol O’Neill, LMSW, EAC Network’s Senior Director of Senior & Nutrition Services. O’Neill added, “This donation will help many invisible and sometimes forgotten, hungry, or frightened older adults who wait for our daily deliveries of food.”
Rick Hoagland, senior vice president at GEICO, applauded the work being done by EAC. “We’re happy to support EAC which has made a positive difference for so many in the Long Island community,” Hoagland shared. “We know there’s a growing need, and this partnership is part of how we care, share, and give back to the places where our associates live and work.”
As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have risen, so has the demand for Meals on Wheels. Many seniors are socially isolated and waiting for the familiar voice of an EAC driver letting them know that food is on their doorstep, and more importantly … they are not forgotten.
