Newsday Charities Awards Long Island Parenting Institute $35,000

L-R: Kathryn Cannino, LIPI Program Director, Pat Dolan, Newsday President/Owner, Dale Cole, Newsday Community Affairs Project Manager, Lance W. Elder, EAC Network President & CEO, Debby Krenek, Newsday Publisher, and Paul Fleishman, Newsday VP Public Affairs.

Central Islip, NY – Hempstead-based human service agency EAC Network is ecstatic to receive a $35,000 grant from Newsday Charities in support of its Long Island Parenting Institute (LIPI). This award supports LIPI’s efforts to enhance outcomes for children by strengthening families and empowering mothers and fathers to become confident and effective parents.

“We could not be more grateful to Newsday Charities for yet another year of invaluable support,” said Kathryn Caninno, LIPI Program Director. “Without Newsday Charities, LIPI would not be able to serve an average of 750 parents each year.”

Children who are abused or neglected are at greater risk for low self-esteem and/or self-control, increased aggression and violence, mental health and/or social issues, and are more likely to abuse or neglect their own children.

LIPI prevents child abuse and limits negative outcomes by utilizing parenting best practices and evidence-based curricula including Bright Beginnings and Common Sense Parenting, as well as promotes protective factors including increasing parent resilience, educating parents on child development and the social/emotional competence of children, creating social connections, and providing concrete support in times of need.

“Our long-standing relationship with Newsday Charities is highly valued and deeply appreciated,” said Lance W. Elder, President & CEO of EAC Network.  “The direct impact Newsday Charities has had on Long Island mothers and fathers has truly made a difference in thousands upon thousands of children’s lives.”
