EAC Network recently hosted a free hair cutting event for LGBTQ+ youth at its Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center in Central Islip. Teamed together with hairdressers from the gender-neutral NYC-based hair salon Hairrari, the event helped to empower LGBTQ+ youth by providing free haircuts that suited their unique identities.
Many LGBTQ+ youth struggle with trying to locate a safe place to get their hair cut due to discrimination of this population. However, these youth want the ability to express themselves authentically. Hairrari was created to offer this type of environment for youth and adults and help them obtain brand new looks to match their gender identity. EAC Network provides services to all populations, including youth, adults, seniors, among many other populations and is a supporter and advocate for the LGBTQ+ population. After an EAC Network staff member received a hair cut from Hairrari, to match their gender identity, the idea for this event was inspired and then brought to fruition. EAC Network thanks Hairrari for their time and efforts in providing fresh new looks to youth that affirmed their gender identity!
