Seniors from our Hempstead Senior Community Service Center attended the recent Village of Hempstead Senior Picnic at Kennedy Park where guests were treated to a family-style lunch, raffles, entertainment by Chauncey Nedd and the Neddmen, bingo, and ice cream. The best part? Two of our members won bingo prizes! Woo!
Once again our incredible friends from MAC Cosmetics came to the rescue of our food pantry for people living with HIV/AIDS in Nassau County. Quick as super heroes, they unloaded a truck stuffed with cases and cases of nutritious food. Three hours of unpacking/labeling food and stocking shelves later, they were gone, leaving the pantry filled to the brim. Thank you, MAC volunteers!
We are SO grateful to have received Brookepacks from the Brooke Jackman Foundation once again! Every year, hundreds of children in our programs receive brand new backpacks filled with school supplies and books so they can be ready and confident on the first day of school! Thank you, Brooke Jackman Foundation!
Our North Merrick Senior Community Service Center hosted its 4th Annual Luau where over 70 seniors came to enjoy the entertainment by Dance Aloha, who performed for the seniors and encouraged audience participation. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch, Hawaiian chicken, rice and green beans, and for desert an ice cream sundae!
Recently, Donna Buccellato, Elder Abuse Educator for the Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk (VIBS), conducted a presentation for the team in our In-Home Respite Services program. The feedback was very positive, as the workshop created greater awareness of the complicated issues surrounding elder abuse and will also allow our companions to be more alert to problems they may encounter in clients’ homes.
Have you been to the recently reopened Zorn’s of Bethpage yet? Our President & CEO, Lance W. Elder, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony alongside other nonprofit leaders and elected officials to celebrate the reopening of this Nassau County staple. Congratulations to EAC Network friend and supporter, Merrill Zorn, on 80 years of the family business!
Members of our Hempstead Senior Community Service Center recently enjoyed a new jewelry making class with instructor Carmela Barile. Activities like jewelry making are provided to the senior centers by our own Senior Health Promotion program, which is generously funded by Nassau County Office for the Aging.
